What have I been doing since last time i posted?
Well, there is not much to do. At least not workwise, but I have had some nice experiencing in the weekends.
The work
I am not even sure that you can call it work. I come every morning around 8 o'clock and sit in the office for the next 8,5 hour. Not really doing anything. I do not receive any work related task, so most of the time I spend looking for tours I want to do in the weekends or call my friends or family.
From next week, I will join a team called MOVE, which is a Global Social Movement Center, where I hopefully will gain some work tasks and knowledge sharing.
Chemka Hotsprings x2, Materuni Waterfall and coffee tour
At TCDC, I have been able to meet many different personalities. Some are here to work and other to attend a class or education. I was very pleased to meet Kirsten and her family. The also arranged a tour to Chemka Hot Springs, which I went on. What a great experience.
The next weekend I went on a tour to Materuni Waterfall. What a majestic experience. The tour to the waterfall, was nothing special compared to the tour to the Napuru Waterfall. But the waterfall itself was WAUW!
This tour also included a trip to Chemka Hotsprings. This time we left TCDC 2 hours earlier than last time, which meant that we were the first guest to arrive, so we were able to see the monkeys. Even though I have seen monkeys many times now, I still gets excited each time I see them. Can you imagine how I will react when I go on a 5-days safari? Me neither :D
After the hot springs, we continued one hour with car until we reach the Chagga tribe. It is the last tribe before Mount Kilimanjaro. We had a local lunch and went for the waterfall. After the hike to the waterfall, we went back to the Chagga tribe for a coffee tour. It is just WAUW with all this great experiences. So good coffee! I ended up buying two bags of coffee beans. They are now in my room and every time I open the closet, where they are placed, I get a sharp smell of coffee in my face. I cannot wait to drink it, when I am back in DK.
When I go on these tour, it is important for me to support the local communities. I do not know how the economy is distributed between the tour operator and the local communities, but I do know that as a consumer, we also do have a responsibility that the money goes to those actually providing the services.

Gran Meliá
Everybody who knows me, know that I like a little luxury sometimes. So of course I wanted to treat myself a little bit when the chance was there. After spending a day in Arusha Town, I went to Gran Meliá with a colleague. It is a five star hotel and an overnight stay is from 398 USD. That is over my price range. But their rooftop is open for everyone. And that is all I need. And their cocktails. The only demand is that you spend 45.000 TSH, which is 114 DDK. Not too bad. Another day, when we do not bring the car, I think we should go through the whole cocktail menu ;)
Look at that view
The work at TCDC
Before my arrival to TCDC, I had a lot of aspirations about the work I will be doing and I was really excited to work and live in another country for 4 months. I have now been here for 1 month. 25% of my stay and still have not got any assignments. I love to be here and my host family is the best, but this is not exactly what I expected. I am frustrated and I am trying to keep up a good mood and spirit, but it gets hard, when there are no work tasks. From next week I will join three different departments, so I hopefully will have something to do. My problem is, that one of the department, will just be secretary duties, and I came here to learn and knowledge share, not just to tap in information to the computer. So that is not really something I want to do. But apparently they expect me to do so. It was not a part of the description, and therefore I think I can say no, but we have a little disagreement about that.
If I was aware of this situation before I left, I would never have went to be volunteer at this place. I am hopeful that the situation will change, but I am also about to loosing heart.
