Solo Travelling
Within this presentation, you will hopefully reach knowledge about my previous travel patterns and where my adventurousness and courage stem from.
I love travelling
Ever since I was a little girl, my family and I have been travelling all around Europe for every school summer holiday and once a year we also went for ski holiday, which I still enjoy this day. On that point I am very fortunate. Later on I have also visited Thailand with my family and China on a study trip. My curiosity for different cultures is probably the result of growing up travelling around Europe. And that might be the reason why I as well chose to study tourism.
The start of solo travelling
Back in March 2023 i joined a group of people travelling to Malaga for a boxing camp with Kimose Sport. At that time I had been introduced to Thai Boxing or Muay Thai and I think that it is the best sport ever existing. So when I got the chance to train boxing in the sun, I didn't hesitate.
And that was my first solo travel.. or not really. I was travelling with a group of people. A group of people I didn't know, but still in a group. But the fire in me was light on.
My first real solo trip
I started out easy. My first solo trip went to Rhodes. I stayed in a 2 star hotel, which was located in the city center and in walking distance to the beach. I spent the time on the beach sipping drinks, swimming and bathing. I also went on two tours, with a tour operator. And so was my second solo trip as well, which was in May 2024, which went to Cyprus. I went with a travel company called Apollo, for my first and second solo trip. It was very convenient. You pay the costs and everything will be taken care of.
Now my eyes were open
This trip was not a solo trip. My Friend, Camilla, went with me. We were planning and coordinating everything on our own. We were travelling in mid July and compared to the time of the season, we still manage to find some quite affordable flight tickets and hotel room. We stayed in Ljubljana and went on day trips from there. It was a great vacation were we visited Bled Lake, Vintgar Gorje, Pedjama Castle and a daytrip to Piran. From Ljubljana it was so easy to get around with the public transportation and everything was affordable.
Bornholm in August 2024
In the end of August, I decided that it was time to take another vacay. This time I ended up with a national vacation. Once before, when I was about 10 years old, I visited Bornholm with my little sister and grandpa. A year earlier, my big brother went to Sweden with my grandpa and since that I had the idea that he would bring me to China. But Bornholm can also do.
When I was writing my thesis in Global Tourism Development, I visited Bornholm, as I was examined the development of Bornholm as local community and the effects that tourism has on the community. Ever since that I wanted to go back and visit the island again. I thought it was a good idea to bring my bike. It turns out that it is no joke that they call the island for rocky. There was a lot of hills. For the first day I was bicycling with my muscles. The next day I rented an electrical bike and then the fun began. It was amazing to see the nature, experience some of the local food and just be a tourist in your own country.
Albania in September 2024
Before I leave the current vacation I am on, I already have plans and coordinating the next one. A lot of people begged me not to go to Albania. They do not know the country and sometimes when you don't know about something, it can seems scary. The tourism in Albania, first really took place in the start of the 2000's, which is unbelievable when you see the nature. From stunning sea views to beautiful mountain after mountain. The nature is crazy beautiful. And it is cheap. Go there before your neighbor.
This was the first trip, where I changed location during my stay. First I spend 5 days in Durrés, which is a coastal city, approximately 40 minutes away from the airport of Tirana. If you like to visit places where there also lives local, I will recommend Durrés. If you only are a beach person, I would recommend Ksamil. After some daytrips and some days at the beach, I went for Tirana, the capital, for the last two days. Even though it is the capital, everything is in walking distance. It was very hard for me to spend two days in this city for me. So I kind of regret I didn't have one more day by the beach instead. But we only learn by doing and overall I had a great vacation.
Riga in December 2024
But of course, I wasn't done travelling. One more trip. It´s like a drug to me. For winter I wanted to go on a spa holiday, and I was actually looking into Krakow, because I really want to see Auschwitz. But then I saw that it was a possibility to go dog sledge with huskies in Riga and that made the decision very easy.
Unfortunately I got sick a couple of days before the trip. I still went though. And I had a great time with the huskies. Otherwise I was walking around the Christmas market and the city. I managed to find some very nice restaurants. I also found some that I wasn't that fund about. But that is how it is.
The rest of the time I spend on my hotel room relaxing and I also booked a spa treatment on the hotel, which was very relaxing.
All in all, I had some great trips in 2024. I have a lot of plans for travelling in my head, but for now we start with my trip to Africa, which is going to be very exiting.
